The Schmidt Vegetable Entomology Lab works to improve production of vegetables and strawberries in South Carolina through our research and extension efforts. Many of our projects focus on unintentional impacts of agriculture on arthropod communities and how those impacts can be manipulated to improve grower outcomes. Current projects examine soil health impacts on insects, predatory mite biodiversity in agriculture, spider mite management, and non-target impacts of pesticides on natural enemies.

We are part of Clemson University’s Entomology Program within the Plant and Environmental Science Department and are housed at the Coastal Research and Education Center in Charleston, SC.
